2AM Rescue

Awake again? Do this before your phone.

A three-minute reset for the middle of the night. Stay in bed if you can, keep the room dark, and let the exhale get longer.

The 3-minute version

1

Place one hand on your wrist

Find HT7 on the crease at the pinky-side edge. Rest a thumb there with light pressure.

2

Breathe 4–6

Inhale gently for four counts; exhale for six. Complete eight rounds without speeding up.

3

Change sides, then stop

Repeat on the other wrist, then let the hands rest. Continue the slower breath.

If wakefulness comes with breathing difficulty, chest pain, severe anxiety, or another concerning symptom, seek medical care rather than continuing a wellness practice.

What makes this different

You’ve probably tried other things at 2 a.m. — counting breaths, progressive muscle relaxation, a meditation app. Here’s how Press-and-Breathe is different:

  • Physical contact, not just visualization. Your thumb is on a specific point (HT7). The touch gives your attention something to rest on that isn’t a thought.
  • A longer exhale, not “just breathe.” The 4-6 pattern (in for 4, out for 6) is built around a longer exhale, which research suggests supports the body’s natural downshift.
  • Three minutes, not thirty. You can do this at 2 a.m. without fully waking yourself up. It’s designed for the middle of the night, not for a daytime meditation session.
  • No app, no screen. A printable card you keep on your nightstand. No blue light, no notification temptation.

Honest expectations

We won’t tell you this “cures insomnia.” What we can tell you: the breathing pattern is supported by research on physiological relaxation, the acupressure point has been studied for sleep in small trials, and many people find it helps them settle back to sleep. Some don’t.

If you have persistent insomnia, please see a healthcare provider. This is a wellness practice, not a treatment. See our Safety Information for details.
